Scales in AutoCad
Scales are used in AutoCad to set up sheet views and viewports in paper space. When setting up a drawing it is important that you know what scale you will be using from the beginning as scale affects text , leader, dimension, block and viewport size.
The Architectural scales below are used for sections, details, elevations and plan views. In order to determine the scale factor, multiply the the denominator of the scale by 12 and if the numerator is a number besides 1, divide the previous sum by the numerator. For example, 3/16" scale would be (16x12) / 3 = 64.

The Engineering scales below are used for civil/site plans and mechanical component drawings. In order to determine the scale factor, convert the "feet" shown to inches by multiplying by 12. For example, 1"=30' would be 30 x 12 = 360.
